Positional Release Therapy

Positional Release Therapy (PRT) is a gentle osteopathic technique. It is a safe and effective way to address tension without deep pressure.

How Does Positional Release Therapy Work?

In PRT the therapist will locate a tender muscle. After that, they will then move your limb into a position that reduces the tenderness. Once the optimal position is found it is held for 30-90 seconds. Being in this comfortable position sends the signal to your brain that it is OK to relax. Therefore the tissue lets go and tension is released.

What are the Benefits of Positional Release?

  • Decreases trigger points and tender spots
  • Increases ROM
  • Aids in postural re-alignment
  • Furthermore it is safe to use on some acute injuries

Who Enjoys PRT?

There is a huge myth that massage needs to be deep in order to be effective. This simply is not true. Positional Release Therapy is an excellent alternative for those who do not tolerate deep tissue massage. It is still a very targeted treatment. Your tender spots will be honed in on and corrected. However, it will be done in a gentle manner.

PRT is also an excellent option for people who have health conditions that preclude deep tissue. For example, deep tissue massage will actually aggravate an area with inflammation and swelling. However PRT can safely be applied in many cases.

Our RMT

Our RMT loves incorporating PRT into her treatments. She has taken additional post grad courses on this modality. She therefore has the knowledge to implement it effectively.

PRT can be incorporated into a general massage. It can also be incorporated into an NKT massage to supercharge results. If you need true therapy, but can not tolerate deep pressure, this is the modality for you!
