A woman getting her head touched by someone else

Swedish Massage

General Swedish Massage (GSM) is the most common form of massage in North America and Europe.  It employs the manual manipulation of the muscles and joints whilst using oil.

I can use any level of pressure that you enjoy for your GSM.  However, most people who gravitate towards this style like light to moderate pressure.

Benefits of Swedish Massage

What distinguishes a Swedish Massage from its Deep Tissue counterpart is that the techniques are more flowy.   Your muscles are relaxed in a gentler manner.

GSM is better for those experiencing active swelling.  Light Swedish techniques have far more effect on the lymphatic system than deeper techniques do.

In addition, I recommend this style of treatment if you have a lot of pain after deeper massages.  While some mild soreness akin to what you experience after exercise is normal after a massage, you should never have severe pain after a treatment. If your pain has been flared by massage in the past, I highly recommend Swedish Massage for you. It is gentle yet still effective.

Positional Release Therapy – A great Adjunct to Swedish Massage

I love combining Positional Release Therapy (PRT) into my Swedish Massage treatments. The advantages of this approach is that PRT adds specificity while at the same time being a very gentle modality.

In this way folks requiring a lighter touch can still have their knots and trigger points worked out in a way that honours their body’s need for a soft hand.
